Freebie – Greenshell Mussels

I work right next door to a Smart and Final store. I went over today to get my usual 3lb. bag of roasted no salt peanuts in the shell and a 5lb. bag of fruit. As I’m checking out the cashier ask me if I would like a box of mussels. “What?”, I say and give him my puzzled, not-sure-what-I-just-heard look. “Mussels. Would you like a FREE box of Mussels?”, the cashier repeats back to me. At this point I still didn’t understand him completely, but FREE is all I needed to hear anyways. He hands me a 10″ square box of frozen New Zealand Greenshell Mussels about 2lbs. worth.

I have no idea what to do with these. Although I have eaten plenty of seafood over the course of my 35 years on the planet, I just never had to cook any shelled type. Recipes anyone, preferably for/with more FREE ingredients?
