No More Comment SPAM

This site has been inundated with comment SPAM recently. I have been able to tolerate this for quite awhile, usually I would just clean it up periodically throughout the day.

BUT I CAN’TS TAKES NO MORE
I just installed a simple anti-comment-spam plug-in I found over at wp-plugin.net. Secureimage was simple and easy to install. I am now kicking myself for not doing this sooner but I have been putting off doing anything more to my WP1.5 install since the plan was to move to the new WP2 build. Of course that was two months ago…

So when you leave a comment you will see a new image with some crazy text and/or numbers. This is designed to be readable by humans and not the damn spam-bots. You will have to type the text and/or numbers that you see in the image into the form field just below the image before you can post a comment. Hope this is not too much of an inconvenience.

YEA! No more SPAM.

UPDATE September 5, 2007:
I have been using Akismet which has been bundled with WordPress for maybe a year or longer. Setup was very simple, click a button and fill out a form, done. This does a very good job of weeding out about 95% of the comment SPAM. The few that are able to make it are just manually edited out. I recommend Akismet for those plagued with moderate SPAM and use Wordpress. If you have a higher trafficked site and suffer from a much heavier SPAM comment problem then you might want to consider CAPTCHA methods of verification for your comment forms or any other forms your using on your web site.
