I HEART SPAM
Actually I don’t, no big surprise right. On a side note, the lunch meat was pretty good back when I ate the stuff.
I like email and I like blog comments, but the SPAM is annoying. I have received my fair share of email SPAM and blog SPAM, as so much SPAM has passed my way I have seen the spectrum of offers covering the important subjects of; *Pills*, *Nigerian Money*, *Get Rich Overnight*, *Personal Enhancement*, *Stock Tips*, *Discounted R0lex* and on and on.
My Latest Blog Stats
There are currently 438 posts and 233 comments, contained within 12 categories.
Akismet has caught 39,281 spam [comments] for you since you first installed it.
And according to Akismet, *93% of all comments are spam*.
With comment SPAM under control I decided that I need a better way of handling my email SPAM.
Recently I decided to tryout Google’s Gmail as a replacement for my own POP3/eMail service. This is not the same as yourname@gmail, rather this allows me to use my own domain with Gmail as the mail server. I had been using SPAM Assassin for email filtering to weed out the good from the bad but this seemed to become less reliable over time or required frequent adjustments to improve the filtering. Gmails builtin SPAM filtering has been very good so far and has helped to keep my INBOX clean with a better than 95% rate of success and only a handful of improperly identified emails so far. I still receive 200+ junk emails a day but now they all go directly to the SPAM box as they should.
As far as I understand how the interweb and search technology works I just can’t get why most people use SPAM as a form of advertising for their business service or product. The exception to this – *Confessions of a former spammer*
I received this bit of junk below today.
hello , my name is Richard and I know you get a lot of spammy comments ,
I can help you with this problem . I know a lot of spammers and I will ask them not to post on your site. It will reduce the volume of spam by 30-50% .In return Id like to ask you to put a link to my site on the index page of your site. The link will be small and your visitors will hardly notice it , its just done for higher rankings in search engines. Contact me icq ##### or write me #####(at)yahoo.com , i will give you my site url and you will give me yours if you are interested. thank you
That is just stupid.
If you want to get better ranking in the search engines I am sure a more creative approach would be appealing as well as proper research to determine who would best fit for a reciprocal link strategy.
Your comments that are not SPAM are welcome.
